In October 2021, the Sertão DreamRoot Training Center construction was completed and commemorated with a grand opening celebration filled with games and treats. The center is located in the Sertão region of Brazil and among the most impoverished districts of the country.
The land that was donated by a local resident. The center is one of its kind in the area, made accessible to community members.
During the construction, 11 locals were employed, and 20 volunteers helped to complete the building. During different phases of the project, vocational training was offered to community members to learn skills like masonry.
The center’s offerings include jiu jitsu led by instructor Davi and assistant coach Erick, Saturday literacy classes and educational games for the children in the town led by Ingrid, and educational events and gatherings for community members.
The new Training Center has quickly become a center of activity since its inauguration, hosting events such as:
● A breast cancer awareness and prevention workshop attended by 17
● Weekly jiu jitsu classes
● Children’s literacy classes and educational games attended by 18 - 30 children every Saturday
● Christmas and Dia Das Criancas (Children’s Day) holiday festivities enjoyed by the children and families in the community.
Thanks to the support of our donors, we have been able to supply the center with Skoolzy educational toys that teach fine motor skills, math, visual perception, matching, imagination and creativity, and more!
